Wine Grape Seeds (Vitis vinifera)
The Wine Grape (Vitis vinifera) is a vigorous and fast-growing deciduous climbing vine prized for its delicious fruit and classic vineyard appearance. This powerful tendril climber produces large, lobed green leaves and can quickly cover trellises, fences, arbors, or walls, creating a lush and productive garden feature.
In late spring to early summer, the plant produces clusters of small greenish flowers, which are followed by bunches of soft, juicy grapes that ripen in late summer. These grapes can vary in size, color, and flavor, and are widely used for fresh eating, juicing, and winemaking.
Left unpruned, this vine can reach 40–60 feet in length, though it is typically maintained much smaller for easier harvesting and better fruit production. Its rapid growth and climbing habit make it ideal for vertical gardening and maximizing space.
🌱 Growing & Care Information
Light: Full sun required for best fruit production
Soil: Deep, well-drained loamy soil; tolerates a wide range of soils
Water: Moderate; prefers consistent moisture with good drainage
Support: Requires trellis, arbor, or fence for climbing
Pruning: Regular pruning needed for healthy growth and fruit yield
Pollination: Self-fertile
Wine grapes perform best in warm, sunny locations with good air circulation and protection from strong winter winds. Proper pruning and training will greatly improve fruit quality and overall plant health.

Wine Grape Germination:
1) Soak seeds in water for 24 hours.
2) Use a moist paper towel with a deluded mixture of water and fungicide, wrapping the seeds inside to stay moist, not wet.
3) Place the filters or paper towels in a zip lock bag, with a few holes in it for air circulation.
4) Seeds need cold stratification so place the zip lock bag in the fridge for 90 days.
5) Use a well draining & sterile seed starting mix, and plant the seeds appx. 1/4" deep.
6) Be sure to keep the temperature above 70 degrees F. Use a heated propagator mat if necessary.
7) Patience is required, as the germination of grape seeds is erratic, and usually takes several months, even all the way up to a year so don't throw out what doesn't sprout quickly as they're still good. They just need more time.
