Tower of Jewels Seeds (Echium wildpretii)

The Echium wildpretii, commonly known as the Tower of Jewels, is a rare and spectacular flowering plant famous for producing one of the tallest and most dramatic floral spikes in the plant world. Native to the volcanic slopes of the Canary Islands, this striking species is prized for its towering form and dense columns of vivid pink to salmon-red flowers.

Known for its breathtaking vertical bloom, Tower of Jewels can produce a single massive flower spike reaching 6–9 feet tall, densely packed with hundreds of small tubular blossoms. These flowers create a shimmering, jewel-like effect as they bloom upward along the stalk and are highly attractive to hummingbirds and bees.

This species typically grows as a rosette of silvery-green leaves in its first year, followed by its spectacular flowering spike in its second year before completing its life cycle. Despite its short lifespan, its visual impact in the garden is extraordinary.

In its native habitat, Echium wildpretii grows in cool, arid, high-altitude volcanic environments with excellent drainage and strong sun exposure. It thrives in similar conditions in cultivation, preferring dry, well-drained soils and full sunlight.

🌱 Growing & Care Information

Light: Full sun required
Soil: Dry to medium, very well-drained soil
Water: Low; drought tolerant once established
Growth: Biennial flowering plant (rosette then bloom spike)

Tower of Jewels Germination:

1) Fill treys with a mix of 50% Compost, 50% Sand.

2) Use a heated propagator to keep the temperature at 68-70 degrees F.

3) At night, Drop the temperature to 35 degrees F. Temperature Fluctuation is Very Important or Germination will be slowed down tremendously.

4) Use a grow lamp to give 18 hours of light as they need light to germinate.

5) Place the Seeds in the treys, "Slightly" covering with Very light layer of sand. Do not bury as they need light to germinate.

6) Use a spray bottle to mist them. Keep "slightly moist", Not wet.

7) Germination will occur between 2-4 weeks for most seeds as long as instructions are followed, but some can take up to a month or two, so don't toss out any that do not come up quickly.

Manténgalas "ligeramente húmedas", no mojadas.

7) La germinación ocurrirá entre 2 y 4 semanas para la mayoría de las semillas, siempre que se sigan las instrucciones, pero algunas pueden demorar hasta un mes o dos, así que no deseche las que no broten rápidamente.
