Tamarind Tree Seeds (Tamarindus indica)

The Tamarindus indica, commonly known as the Tamarind Tree, is a long-lived tropical fruit tree prized for its sweet-and-sour edible pods, elegant foliage, and ornamental beauty. Native to tropical Africa and cultivated throughout Asia, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean, Tamarind is one of the most widely recognized tropical culinary trees in the world.

Known for its flavorful brown seed pods filled with tangy pulp, Tamarind is extensively used in sauces, beverages, candies, curries, marinades, desserts, and traditional herbal preparations. The pulp delivers a rich sweet-tart flavor highly valued in international cuisine.

This species develops into a large, graceful shade tree with feathery pinnate foliage and a broad spreading canopy. In its natural habitat, Tamarind trees may reach heights of up to 80 feet, creating an impressive tropical landscape specimen.

Tamarind also produces small yellowish flowers streaked with red or orange and is widely appreciated as an ornamental tree for parks, gardens, and tropical landscapes. Its naturally textured trunk and fine foliage additionally make it an outstanding bonsai specimen.
