Tamarillo Tree Tomato Seeds (Cyphomandra betacea)
The Solanum betaceum, commonly known as Tamarillo or Tree Tomato, is a fast-growing tropical fruiting tree prized for its colorful egg-shaped fruit, fragrant flowers, and heavy annual production. Native to South America, this unique semi-woody tree is widely cultivated in subtropical and tropical climates for both ornamental beauty and edible fruit production.
Known for its attractive clusters of smooth oval fruits resembling small tomatoes or plums, Tamarillo produces sweet-tart fruit often used in juices, sauces, desserts, jams, and fresh eating. Mature trees can yield exceptionally heavy harvests, with healthy plants capable of producing over 60 pounds of fruit annually under ideal growing conditions.
In early spring, the tree develops fragrant pink to pale lavender flowers that later mature into vibrant red, orange, or purple fruit depending on the variety. Its lush tropical foliage and rapid growth make it both a productive edible plant and an attractive ornamental landscape specimen.
Tamarillo typically grows as a small tree or large shrub reaching 10–18 feet tall, though container-grown plants remain more compact and manageable for patios or greenhouse cultivation.
