Sweet Mazzard Cherry Tree Seeds (Prunus avium)

The Prunus avium, commonly known as Sweet Mazzard Cherry or Wild Sweet Cherry, is a beautiful deciduous fruit tree valued for its delicious edible cherries, ornamental spring flowers, and vibrant autumn foliage. Native to Europe and Western Asia, this species is one of the primary ancestors of many cultivated sweet cherry varieties grown today.

Sweet Mazzard Cherry develops into a large upright tree that can reach heights of up to 35–40 feet at maturity. In spring, the branches become covered with clusters of fragrant white flowers featuring five delicate petals and numerous stamens, creating a spectacular ornamental display that also attracts pollinators.

Following flowering, the tree produces sweet edible cherries enjoyed by both people and wildlife. The glossy green foliage transforms into brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red during autumn, adding additional seasonal beauty to the landscape.

This species thrives in full sun and prefers fertile, moist, well-drained loamy soils. It performs best in areas with good air circulation and protection from strong winds and frost pockets, which can affect flowering and fruit production.

Sweet Cherry trees are widely planted as ornamental shade trees, edible fruit producers, and wildlife-friendly landscape specimens due to their combination of beauty and usefulness.
