Silk Floss Tree Seeds (Ceiba speciosa) Rare Exotic Pink Flower Bottle Tree

The Ceiba speciosa, commonly known as Silk Floss Tree or Bottle Tree, is a rare exotic ornamental tree prized for its dramatic pink flowers, striking sculptural trunk, and fast-growing tropical nature. Native to South America, this unique species is widely grown as a statement landscape tree in warm climates.

The Silk Floss Tree produces large, vibrant pink to rose-colored flowers with a showy, orchid-like appearance. When in bloom, the tree becomes heavily covered in blossoms, creating one of the most eye-catching floral displays among tropical trees.

It is also known for its unusual trunk, which becomes thick and bottle-shaped with age and is covered in short conical spines. This distinctive structure makes it highly valued as both a flowering and architectural specimen tree.

This fast-growing deciduous tree develops a broad canopy and performs best in full sun with well-draining soil. Once established, it is drought tolerant and low maintenance, making it suitable for tropical and subtropical landscapes.

Silk Floss Tree Germination:

1) Sand the hard shells of the seeds, just enough to rough up the shell, never going deep.

2) Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours.

3) Using well draining potting soil, bury seeds 1/4" to 1/2" inch deep. Keep soil moist at all times, but never waterlogged.

4) Use a heated propagator mat to keep the temperatures between 75-80 degrees F.

5) Germination is erratic, and will occur anywhere between 10-30 days......some will sprout before others.
