Sea Buckthorn Tree Seeds (Hippophae rhamnoides)
The Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a hardy and highly valued fruiting shrub famous for producing clusters of vibrant orange superfood berries packed with nutrients. This tough plant thrives in cold climates, poor soils, and coastal environments, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a resilient and productive edible landscape plant.
The bright orange berries are extremely rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Vitamin A, and have long been used in juices, teas, oils, and health supplements. According to ancient legend, the berries and leaves were fed to horses by the Greeks to promote a healthy, shiny coat, which is where the plant’s botanical name—meaning “shiny horse”—originates.
Sea Buckthorn grows into a dense, thorny shrub reaching 8–15 feet tall, producing narrow silvery-green foliage that adds ornamental appeal to gardens and landscapes. In late summer to fall, the branches become covered with bright orange berries that create a stunning contrast against the foliage.
