Red Rose Cassia Shower Tree Seeds (Cassia roxburghii)

The Cassia roxburghii, commonly known as Red Shower Tree or Rose Cassia, is a rare and highly ornamental tropical flowering tree prized for its cascading clusters of pink to rose-colored blossoms. Native to Sri Lanka and parts of South Asia, this graceful tree is widely grown in warm climates for its dramatic floral display and elegant, drooping branch structure.

Known for its abundant flowering habit, Rose Cassia produces dense hanging clusters of soft pink blooms that cover the tree during the summer months, creating a striking “rainfall” effect of color. Its long, pinnate leaves add a lush tropical appearance, with each leaf composed of many pairs of small oval leaflets that enhance its fine-textured foliage.

This fast-growing ornamental tree can reach up to 30–40 feet in ideal conditions but can also be pruned and maintained as a smaller patio tree or grown in large containers. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers warm, frost-free environments with well-draining soil and regular watering.

Red Shower Germination:

1) Aggressively rub the hard seed shell with rough sandpaper. Using a small knife, make a few shallow nicks into the hard shells. Not too deep.

2) Soak the seeds overnight in a bowl of 120-degree Fahrenheit water. Keep the seeds that sink to the bottom and throw away the seeds that float.

3) Use a heated propagator under the seed trays or containers to keep a constant temperature of 75-80 F+.

4) Place a 3-inch depth of peat-based potting mix in a container that has drain holes in the bottom. Pour room-temperature water over the potting mix

 until it is moistened.

5) Plant the cassia bush seeds 2 inches apart. Cover the seeds with soil to a depth equal to twice the seed diameter.  

6) Place a piece of plastic over the container or place the whole container  in a large plastic bag and seal it shut.

7) Set the container in a bright area. Check the soil twice each week and moisten it with room-temperature water if the top of the soil begins to dry. Remove the plastic cover once seedlings are 2 inches tall.

8) Patience is required as with any exotic or tropical seed, germination will be erratic. Expect germination anywhere between 14 to 90 days. Well Worth the Wait!

Germinación con lluvia roja:

1) Frote con fuerza la cáscara dura de las semillas con papel de lija grueso. Con un cuchillo pequeño, haga unos cortes superficiales en la cáscara dura, pero no demasiado profundos.

2) Deje las semillas en remojo durante la noche en un recipiente con agua a 120 grados Fahrenheit. Guarde las semillas que se hundan hasta el fondo y deseche las que floten.

3) Use un propagador calentado debajo de las bandejas o recipientes de semillas para mantener una temperatura constante de 75-80 F+.

4) Coloque una mezcla para macetas a base de turba de 3 pulgadas de profundidad en un recipiente que tenga orificios de drenaje en el fondo. Vierta agua a temperatura ambiente sobre la mezcla para macetas hasta que se humedezca.

5) Plante las semillas de arbusto de casia a 2 pulgadas de distancia. Cubra las semillas con tierra hasta una profundidad igual al doble del diámetro de la semilla.

6) Coloque un trozo de plástico sobre el recipiente o coloque todo el recipiente en una bolsa de plástico grande y ciérrela.

7) Coloque el recipiente en un área luminosa. Revise la tierra dos veces por semana y humedézcala con agua a temperatura ambiente si la superficie de la tierra comienza a secarse. Retire la cubierta de plástico una vez que las plántulas tengan 2 pulgadas de alto.

8) Se requiere paciencia. Como con cualquier semilla exótica o tropical, la germinación será errática. Espere que la germinación dure entre 14 y 90 días. ¡Vale la pena esperar!
