Mayten “Weeping Green Shower” Tree Seeds (Maytenus boaria)

The Maytenus boaria, commonly known as Mayten Tree or Maytenus, is a rare evergreen ornamental tree admired for its elegant weeping form and delicate willow-like foliage. Native to South America, this graceful species is highly valued in warm-climate landscapes for its pendulous branches, airy texture, and year-round evergreen beauty.

Mayten Tree is often considered an excellent alternative to the traditional Weeping Willow in regions where willows struggle with drought or excessive heat. Its long cascading branches are covered in fine, glossy green leaves that shimmer and sway gracefully in the wind, creating a soft, flowing appearance in the landscape.

Unlike true willows, this species is notably drought tolerant once established and is generally resistant to most pests and diseases. It also requires significantly less water than willow species, making it well suited for Mediterranean and low-water gardens.

At maturity, the tree typically develops a rounded canopy reaching approximately 20–30 feet tall and wide, though growth rate and size can vary depending on climate and irrigation. Its naturally graceful branching habit also makes it highly desirable for bonsai cultivation.

This species grows best in full sun to partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. Young plants benefit from protection from strong cold winds, and root disturbance should be minimized once established.
