Japanese Red Pine Tree Seeds (Pinus densiflora) Evergreen Bonsai Landscape Pine
The Pinus densiflora, commonly known as Japanese Red Pine or Akamatsu, is a hardy evergreen conifer valued for its attractive reddish bark, elegant form, and strong adaptability to both bonsai cultivation and landscape planting. Native to Japan, Korea, northeastern China, and parts of Russia, this species is widely admired in traditional Japanese gardens.
Japanese Red Pine typically grows 30–50 feet tall in the landscape, forming a graceful, open canopy with long, soft needles arranged in pairs. Its bark develops warm reddish tones with age, giving the tree its distinctive ornamental appeal throughout all seasons.
This pine is especially popular in bonsai culture due to its flexibility, vigorous growth, and ability to develop characterful trunk movement over time. It is also used in larger landscapes for specimen planting, windbreaks, and naturalistic garden designs.
It thrives in full sun and prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soils. Once established, it is highly resilient and can tolerate a range of temperate climates, including cold winters.
