Hardy Issai Arctic Grape Kiwi Fruit Tara Vine Seeds (Actinidia arguta)

The Actinidia arguta, commonly known as Hardy Kiwi, Arctic Kiwi, or Kiwi Berry, is a vigorous, fast-growing deciduous vine prized for its sweet, grape-sized edible fruit and exceptional cold hardiness. Native to East Asia, this species is widely cultivated in colder regions where traditional kiwifruit cannot survive.

Known for producing smooth-skinned, bite-sized fruit often referred to as “grape kiwis,” Hardy Kiwi is valued for its intense sweetness, high vitamin C content, and refreshing tropical flavor. The fruit is typically eaten whole without peeling, making it convenient for fresh eating, smoothies, and desserts.

The Issai variety is especially popular because it is self-fertile, meaning it does not require a separate male plant to produce fruit. This makes it one of the easiest kiwi vines for home gardeners.

This vigorous climbing vine can grow rapidly under ideal conditions, often reaching long lengths in a single season when supported by strong trellises or arbors. It produces dense green foliage, fragrant white to greenish flowers in early summer, and abundant fruit in fall.

🌱 Growing & Care Information

Light: Full sun to partial shade (best fruiting in sun)
Soil: Well-drained, slightly acidic soil
Water: High; prefers consistent moisture but not waterlogged soil
Growth: Very fast-growing climbing vine
Climate: Extremely cold hardy temperate climates

Hardy Kiwi thrives when given strong structural support and regular watering during active growth. It is often used for arbors, fences, pergolas, and edible landscape designs due to its vigorous growth and productive fruiting.

Issai Kiwi Germination:

Just like any other Tropical Seed, Patience is required with Kiwi seeds, but definitely worth the wait. Cold Stratify them by Storing them in a Moist medium (peat moss or vermiculite) placed in the Refrigerator at 45* degrees F* for the appx. 90 Days, then Sow them in seed starting mix at 70+ degrees F*. Use a heated propagator set to 75+ Degrees F* will Drastically Improve Germination Results and Helps to Speed up most Seed's Sprouting time. If there is no germination after a few weeks, just clean & re-refrigerate the seeds as they're still good. After 4-8 more weeks, take the seeds out again and keep your heated propagator under them in a warm space or environment. With the transition from cold (winter) to heat (spring), the period of dormancy has to be broken. In a lot of cases, multiple cold periods are Required to do so with Issai Kiwi seeds. It can be quite hard to get this variety to germinate so just be patient. They are "Definitely More than Worth the Wait" Considering Each Fruit Vine can Produce up to 100lbs of Fresh Kiwis Each Year!
