Giant Mammoth Russian “Grey Stripe” Sunflower Seeds (Helianthus annuus)
The Helianthus annuus ‘Mammoth Grey Stripe’ is a classic heirloom giant sunflower variety famous for its enormous flower heads, towering height, and large edible striped seeds. This fast-growing annual makes a dramatic statement in gardens, meadows, wildlife plantings, and children’s gardens with blooms that can reach up to 10 inches across atop impressive stalks growing 8–12 feet tall.
Massive golden-yellow flowers with dark centers attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators throughout the summer season. As the flower heads mature, they produce abundant large grey-striped sunflower seeds that are excellent for roasting, snacking, wildlife feeding, or leaving on the stalks for birds to enjoy naturally.
This open-pollinated heirloom sunflower is easy to grow and thrives in full sun locations with loose, well-draining soil. Due to its height, planting near fences, walls, or sheltered locations is recommended to protect plants from strong winds.
Mammoth Grey Stripe Sunflowers are widely loved for their impressive size, rapid growth, pollinator value, edible seeds, and cheerful appearance in both ornamental and productive gardens.
