Chinese Pistachio Tree Seeds (Pistacia chinensis)

The Pistacia chinensis, commonly known as Chinese Pistachio or Chinese Pistache, is a highly attractive ornamental shade tree prized for its brilliant autumn foliage, drought tolerance, and adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions. Native to central and western China, this deciduous tree is widely used in landscaping for its symmetrical canopy, colorful seasonal display, and low-maintenance nature.

Known for its glossy dark green compound leaves, Chinese Pistachio transforms dramatically in fall with vivid shades of orange, scarlet, and crimson red. The changing foliage colors often appear gradually across the canopy, creating a striking multicolored effect that makes this tree one of the finest ornamental fall-color species for temperate landscapes.

This hardy ornamental tree typically grows 25–35 feet tall with a broad rounded canopy that provides excellent shade once mature. Younger trees develop somewhat irregular branching, but with age they become beautifully uniform and elegant landscape specimens. Mature bark develops attractive gray scaly ridges that reveal salmon-orange inner bark beneath.

Female trees may produce clusters of small decorative berries that transition from red to bluish tones, adding additional ornamental interest during the growing season. Chinese Pistachio is also highly valued as a bonsai specimen due to its textured bark, colorful foliage, and strong branching structure.
