California Pacific Trailing Blackberry Seeds (Rubus ursinus)

The Rubus ursinus, commonly known as California Blackberry or Pacific Trailing Blackberry, is a vigorous native North American bramble valued for its sweet edible berries, trailing growth habit, and ecological importance. This hardy fruiting vine naturally grows in woodlands, coastal regions, streambanks, and open meadows throughout western North America.

California Blackberry produces long trailing canes lined with small prickles and attractive green foliage. In spring and early summer, the plant develops delicate white to pale pink flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. These blooms are followed by flavorful dark purple to black berries enjoyed by wildlife and people alike.

This species is especially valuable for erosion control and habitat restoration due to its dense spreading root system and vigorous trailing growth. It performs exceptionally well along creek banks, slopes, woodland edges, and naturalized landscapes.

Native Americans historically used the berries as a food source and also valued various parts of the plant for traditional medicinal purposes. The foliage additionally serves as a host plant for several native butterfly species, including larvae of the Western Tiger Swallowtail.

California Pacific Trailing Blackberry thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to many soil types, especially where moderate moisture is available during the growing season.
