California Fan Palm Germination:

1) Lightly sand the seed shell, and place a few small nicks with knife, being careful not to go to deep. 

2) Soak in warm water for 24 hours. Using a thermos helps keep the water warm longer.

3) Use a well-draining seed-starting mix, such as a blend of coconut coir, perlite, and sand. Plant seeds about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) deep with the pointed end down, though orientation isn't critical. Keep moist, but not overly wet.

4) Use a heated propagator mat to Maintain a soil temperature of 85°F to 95°F (29°C to 35°C) for optimal germination.

5) Palm seed germination is erratic. Some seeds may sprout in 3-4 weeks, while others can take up to 3 months so don't toss out any that do not sprout early as they're still good and just need more time.
