Blue Cereus Cactus Seeds (Browningia hertlingiana)
The Browningia hertlingiana, commonly known as Blue Cereus or Blue Browningia, is a rare and striking columnar cactus native to the dry Andean regions of southern Peru. This highly sought-after species is admired for its vivid blue-green to turquoise stems and tall, tree-like growth habit that creates a dramatic architectural presence in desert landscapes and collector gardens.
Known for its unusual coloration, Blue Cereus develops a distinct bluish-silver sheen that intensifies under strong sunlight, giving the plant an almost surreal, glowing appearance. Its ribbed, upright stems can grow into tall branching columns, making it resemble a living desert sculpture as it matures.
In its native habitat, this cactus can reach impressive heights of up to 20–26 feet, forming a bold vertical structure that stands out in arid environments. Despite its exotic appearance, it is relatively low-maintenance and highly drought tolerant, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced cactus growers.
At maturity, Blue Cereus produces large, white, night-blooming flowers that contrast beautifully against its blue-toned stems, adding seasonal interest to its already dramatic form.

Blue Cereus Germination:
- Use a well-draining cactus mix or blend of 50% perlite/pumice + 50% seed-starting soil or sand. Sterilize by microwaving damp soil for 2–3 minutes (optional but helps prevent mold).
- Sprinkle seeds on the surface of moist soil — do not bury. Lightly press them down to ensure good contact.
- Only use a Mist to water so the seeds don't become displaced and buried too deep, then cover the container with clear plastic wrap, a humidity dome, or a plastic bag to maintain high humidity.
- Use a heat map to keep soil at 75–85°F (24–29°C) in bright, indirect light — never full sun during germination.
Seeds usually sprout within 10–30 days, though some may take longer. Be patient!

¡Tenga paciencia!
