BANANA PASSIONFRUIT SEEDS (Passiflora mollissima)

The Passiflora mollissima, commonly known as Banana Passionfruit, is a vigorous tropical climbing vine prized for its fast growth, fragrant flowers, and abundant edible fruit production. Native to the Andean regions of South America, this rare fruiting passion vine has been widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates for its ornamental beauty and high-yield fruiting habit.

Known for its rapid climbing growth and long trailing vines that can exceed 20 feet or more, Banana Passionfruit produces attractive pink to light purple passion flowers followed by elongated oblong fruits up to 5 inches in length. The fruit develops from green to bright yellow or orange-yellow as it ripens, revealing aromatic orange pulp filled with edible black seeds.

The pulp is sweet, tangy, and highly fragrant with subtle banana and citrus notes, making it excellent for fresh eating, juices, desserts, jams, and tropical fruit blends. In many South American regions, the pulp is strained or blended into drinks, smoothies, and ice creams, often combined with other tropical fruits for enhanced flavor.

This species is a fast-growing perennial vine that can mature from seed in as little as one year under ideal conditions and may remain productive for 15–20 years. A single mature vine can produce hundreds of fruits per season under optimal growing conditions.

Passion Fruit Germination:

1) Rub the outer shell with rough grit sandpaper and soak seeds in water for 48 hours, changing water daily.

2) Use a heated propagator to keep the soil 75-80 degrees F.

3) Plant seeds 1/2 inches deep in moist sterile soil. Never wet.

4) Periodically check them so they don't dry out. If mold or fungus is spotted, clean effected seeds with a copper based fungicide and rinse them off really well. Then place back in a new sterile potting mix.

5) Patience is required as with any Tropical seeds, germination times can vary from 6 weeks all the way up to 6 months. Some have been known to take up to a year, so don't toss out what doesn't germinate as quickly as others. They're still good, and just need more time & are Well Worth the Wait!
